ELECTION INFORMATION

The Berkeley City Council District 5 Election will take place on November 2, 2004. To vote in this election you must register no later than October 18, 2004. To register on line, and for information about polling places, absentee ballot requests, and other information about voting, please visit the Alameda County Registrar of Voters website.

Complete information about the 2004 elections in the City of Berkeley, as well as laws and regulations related to Berkeley elections, is available on the website of the Berkeley City Clerk.

The League of Women Voters of California provides nonpartisan, unbiased election information about candidates and initiatives through its Smart Voter website. You can reach Jesse's page directly at this link.

As the election approaches, two publications will provide Progressives in Berkeley with detailed research and information slanted toward Progressive values -- the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and the Green Party of Alameda County Voter Guide. The Townley campaign recommends both of these sources (which do not always agree with each other) for those wishing to receive more information about the election in October.

GRASSROOTS VOTER EDUCATION
Jesse Townley The divisive policies of President Bush have galvanized youth across the nation like few Presidents in recent memory. More and more are registering to vote, getting involved with grassroots organizing, and redefining electoral politics. Jesse is proud to be supported by Bands Against Bush Bay Area, and Do-It-Yourself Politics. The former is one of the leading music-based anti-Bush coalitions, while the latter grew out of Governor Howard Dean's primary campaign. The energy and optimism of these and similar groups is infectious and great news for our shared future. Jesse also works with Punk Voter, a group profiled in The Nation, that registers young people to vote.
